Collins, Johnson & Thornberry Funeral Directors open for business
Collins, Johnson & Thornberry Funeral Directors opened for business at 1011 East Avenue in Wellington on Monday, May 23. The business is owned by Jason and Julie Collins, Dickie and Holly Johnson and Drew and Lesa Thornberry.
Jason W. Collins, Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer, is the Funeral Director in Charge and will manage the daily operations. Collins, Johnson & Thornberry is a full-service funeral home committed to providing excellent service to honor the memories of every family they serve. General office hours are from 8 a.m. until noon and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The phone lines are always answered and assistance is available 24-hours a day.
Collins is a 1997 graduate of the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service. Just weeks after graduation that year, Collins, his wife Julie and son Jeffrey moved to Wellington where Collins began his internship with Adams Funeral Home. He became fully licensed in 1998 and continued his work with Adams, serving the people of Wellington and the surrounding communities until he stepped away in the spring of 2004.
Since that time, Collins has pursued a degree in education while working for OJD Engineering. “Even though I was interested in becoming a teacher, I believe that my calling is to counsel and care for people during their time of need," states Collins. "I’m very happy to finally be able to return to serving the wonderful people that I have come to know and love.”
Each of the other partners will continue with their full-time careers while providing assistance at the funeral home as needed to care for families. Julie is the business manager for OJD Engineering and will handle the business side of the funeral home. Dickie is a Registered Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor and one of the owners of OJD Engineering. Holly is a professional educator and teaches math at Hedley Junior High School. In addition to teaching, she owns Holly Johnson Finishes where she creates decorative wall finishes and provides design assistance.
Drew has a degree in Animal Science and is a pharmaceutical sales representative for Ivesco Animal Health. Drew also sells crop insurance for First Wellington Agency. Lesa owns T-Berry’s Sandwich & Gift Shop and is close to finishing her degree in mortuary science. Upon completion and receiving her provisional license, Lesa will begin her Funeral Director’s internship at Collins, Johnson & Thornberry under the direct supervision of Jason Collins.
“Although we are still adding the finishing touches to our building and property, we are ready to serve our community in every way that we can," comments Collins. "We encourage people to stop by to visit with us, have a cup of coffee and take a look at our new facility. For those who can’t come by, we encourage them to visit our website at www.CJTFunerals.com. Much like our facility, our website is both beautiful and functional. New pages to our website will be released in the days ahead.”
Plans for a formal “Open House” are in progress and will be announced in the weeks to come.
